JetBrains®, a renowned vendor of professional tools for software developers, today announced JetBrains Toolbox and the move to a subscription-based model for its desktop tools, effective November 2, 2015.

JetBrains Toolbox includes JetBrains desktop products for developers, now to be available on a monthly or yearly subscription basis. The new unified distribution model for products in JetBrains Toolbox comes with a lower price tag and simplified license management. Customers can pick one or more tools in JetBrains Toolbox that best suit their current needs, or go for the 'All products' plan that features extra savings.

"Founded in 2000, JetBrains has grown from a one-product company to a trusted vendor of professional development tools for millions of end users. While this makes us proud, it also poses many challenges," said Maxim Shafirov, JetBrains CEO. "With dozens of major and minor releases being published every year, it's becoming difficult for customers to track all the different product versions and licenses and manage their budgets. You can see how moving to this new distribution model is the natural next step to making access to our products transparent and flexible—and pleasantly more affordable, too."

The 'All products' plan is inspired by the evolving market and customer needs. An increasing number of developers are using multiple technologies to write software. JetBrains already provides tooling for a variety of programming languages including Java, C#, JavaScript, PHP, C++, Python and Swift. The new distribution model reduces the cost of purchasing various desktop products and provides developers with the option to use what they want, when they want.

The upcoming changes will affect the following products: IntelliJ IDEA, AppCode, CLion, PhpStorm, PyCharm, RubyMine, WebStorm, ReSharper, ReSharper C++, dotTrace, dotCover, and dotMemory. There will be no change to the family of JetBrains server tools including YouTrack, TeamCity, Upsource, and Hub.
