Company News

Datos IO announced the industry's first recovery platform for next-generation scale-out databases. The company was founded by former Data Domain (EMC), Veritas and IBM Research veteran Tarun Thakur, CEO, and Dr. Prasenjit Sarkar, CTO, who spent more than 15 years at IBM Research. Datos IO received $2.75 million in oversubscribed Seed funding and $12.5 million in oversubscribed Series A funding, for a total of $15.25 million, from leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners and True Ventures along with a number of angel investors.

The company also has an impressive team of advisors, including BJ Jenkins, CEO of Barracuda Networks; Matt Pfeil, chief customer officer at DataStax; Debashis Saha, vice president, eBay Cloud Services; and Dr. Remzi Arpaci-Dusseau, professor of computer science, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The team includes five members from IBM Almaden Research Center, five PhDs and senior technical architects from Google, Netflix, Data Domain (EMC), CommVault, NetApp and Oracle.

The enterprise data center is being transformed to keep pace with today's data-centric world, enabling it to support the social, mobile and cloud environment in which today's consumers live. Large-volume, high-ingestion, real-time data from various sources is becoming mainstream for the new web-scale, distributed applications that enterprises are employing to gain deeper business insights. These next-generation applications are being deployed on scale-out databases such as Cassandra, MongoDB, HBase, Amazon DynamoDB, Google BigTable and Spark. These databases enable rapid development of next-generation applications, but they lack enterprise-scale recovery capabilities that allow corrupted data to be removed, replayed and propagated with minimal downtime to customer-facing applications.

The entire enterprise IT stack is going through a massive transformation, thus leading to the hyper-growth markets of Big Data and Cloud Databases. According to a report by Markets and Markets, the Cloud Database and Database-as-a-Service market is projected to be a $14.05 billion market by fiscal year 2019, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 67.30 percent during the forecast period of 2014-2019.

Datos IO allows enterprises to fully embrace the next-generation applications they need to advance their businesses by:
* delivering an industry-first distributed versioning platform for scale-out databases
* empowering application architects and DevOps
* allowing customers to extract value from their data and metadata via advanced data management services (runnable applications and more)

Today, Datos IO is announcing its Early Access Program (EAP); the product will be generally available in 2016.
